Appearance


Gorm is a Caucasian male with wide shoulders, a thick bushy brown beard, and usually has his brown curly, shoulder-length hair pulled up into a ponytail that bushes out on the end. His body is that of a soldier, athletic and scarred. Several battles have already torn their way into the flesh in his left and right shoulders, and a large one that streaks down his back; it starts in between his shoulder blades and goes to his hips. He has light blue eyes. His skin is weathered and tanned. He has four tattoos that encircle each of his limbs, glyphs of a sort that prevent him from using magics.

His normal clothing is that of wool, cotton, and linen. Usually, he is in a cotton shirt with linen trousers. Gorm carries a quiver of arrows either on his back or hanging on his belt, depending on the situation, usually held there by a leather strap. Most of the time, he wears a wool hooded cape, especially while hunting or out in the bush. A longsword can be found hanging from his belt.

Personality


Loyal: Gorm is loyal to the Æld'Norai kingdom and to Ælheim, upholding their values and commitments. He honors his oaths and keeps his word to the best of his ability and believes that integrity is the foundation of real strength. These things are what binds his people, his homeland, and the traditions that shape them.

Awkward: Gorm carries himself with an air of quiet detachment. His words and expressions usually do not betray his emotions. Social interactions often feel like some foreign battle ground, where unspoken rules and nuance of conversations escape him. He is blunt, direct, and can sometimes unsettle those unaccustomed to his manner. Despite his awkwardness he means to make no real conflict. He has cultivated a straightforwardness, born from a life of discipline and duty. His close friends are the ones that can see this silence is just careful restraint; that he is someone who has spent more time mastering actions rather than words.

Pragmatic: Gorm focuses on the results, rather than relying on doing things the way they have always been done. He seeks new and interesting ways to accomplish his goals. This sometimes means bending the rules if it means to support his kingdom and allies, though when the decision is that high up, he is usually just nodding in agreement to someone who followed the line of thinking.

HISTORY​

Born in Ælheim to a loving and large family. Though they were looked down upon by the Aelves that ruled the land, they were allowed to make a place for themselves, as long as they contributed to the growth of the Æld'Norai kingdom. His father was in the military, a leader of the warband. The pay and prestige of the title gave them a large home, food, and drink, and many other niceties that Gorm couldn't yet comprehend. At a young age he was taught the bow and the basics of the sword, allowed to accompany his father on hunting expeditions for some of the more rare quarry. He did his best and was eventually allowed to join them, never mind his father's misgivings.

At the age of 16 Gorm was taken from his father and brought before their regions Æld'Norai ruler. They told him it was a rite of passage, something that would make him a man. Though, he had never heard of it. The whole trip to the mage's tent his father was huffing and puffing. An anger that only Gorm could recognize as confusion and sadness. Gorm swallowed his fear that day, it seemed that he might die, whatever this was. When he was brought before them, in a tent specially made for such a thing, Gorm was bound and and foot. A aelve solder came up from behind him and yelled at him to kneel. A language was spoken that he didn't understand, a nod between the ruler and his father, both of them curt. As if saying, "time for him to die?" and "Yes, it is time for him to die." Tears streamed down Gorms cheeks. He'd dare not scream. He was afraid but he wouldn't disgrace his father now, not when there was a glimmer of hope that this was not the end.

What followed that day was pain. Perhaps death would have followed if he was more frail. They cut into his body at several points, no antistatic was used, and no explanation as to why. His body was implanted with something. A creature. No, an insect. Gorm's mind was fussy as he had passed out several times during the process. When he had awakened the next day he was in his bed, tattoos encircled his arms and legs, small slices in his shoulders and hips. The back of his head was shaven with a mark placed that that he could not see. All of them wrapped neatly and washed, presumably by his mother.


He hasn't seen his father since that day. The Aelves took him and stowed him away in some underground area. He still usually only dealt with humans, but it was all work and duty. Day in and day out he was taught the sword, the bow, how to roll and keep his balance. This thing went on for several years before he was allowed to roam Ælheim alone, before he was given somewhere to stay. He was told not to live with his family, to cut his ties for whatever reason. Something about keeping people close and danger. He quickly learned what he was being trained to do, once the letters started to poor in telling him who his targets were.
