Description:
Felinog are approximately ten feet tall four-legged creatures who's appearance resembles a mix between a troll, bear, and a cat. They are incredibly strong and vicious creatures who are notoriously difficult to kill. They are few in number, often clashing with other Felinog over territory or competing for mates.
Cultural Significance:
These creatures mark their territory in roughly the shape of a circle. Their territorial boundaries give off a smell that sparks the feeling of foreboding, a warning not to tread closer. Sapient creatures know well to avoid these areas. It's commonly assumed that if one is spotted by a Felinog, it's best to fight rather than flee.
Habitat:
Remote areas of the Frostlund. They have incredibly thick fur so they require cold climate and they don't play well with others so they like the solitude. Caves and slices of forest are common.
Size:
Ten feet tall, easily thirty feet long if one includes the tail. Their dense musculature makes them weigh 2-4 tons.
Biome Role:
Felinog assert themselves as the apex of their territory unless they lose a fight, after which they will readjust their territory as necessary.
Life Cycle:
These creatures take about ten years to fully mature. They mate every year, around late fall before hibernating during mid-winter.
Resources:
Felinog are sometimes fought when their territory overlaps with AElven/Faelnir territory, but are generally not hunted. They are notoriously hard to kill due to their blood that has incredible regenerative properties. They heal minor wounds mid-fight and can regrown entire limbs over the course of a month. This blood is able to be extracted and used by someone with Master Medicine, Maltrician, Alchemistry, or Devorari.
Parts of their hide and some bones (teeth, claws, etc.) are 1.5x as hard as steel. Master crafting skill could process relevant body parts and make use of them.
Notable Features:
- Quick Reflexes
Felinog have reaction times that are faster than a typical cat's. Their natural weaponry and regeneration are impressive, but it's how fast they react that makes them as deadly as they are. Combat minded changelings with the ability to use chimera dream of imprinting on Felinog for this reason alone. - Musculature
Felinog have strange musculature. They normally appear to be lanky, sometimes even sickly looking. However, when they become aggressive, their muscles bulge immensely, granting them their superior strength. Changelings are able to make use of this through chimera to achieve sudden bursts of strength that far exceed what they are naturally capable of. - Regeneration
Felinog can regenerate quickly without expending any energy whatsoever. Minor wounds heal in the span of minutes and limbs can be regrown over the course of a month. Poisons and disease can be combatted similarly. Regeneration is not an easy thing to chimera, however. Making use of the regeneration in a non-felinog form would require beast magic (see below)
Beast Magic:
Healing FactorMinor Merit
Yes
100 XP - Minor
The Felinog's regenerative properties become available to use with chimera. Triggering it outside of Felinog form still requires an expert cast of Saol to make use of in combat.
250 XP - Major
By infusing one's blood with a master cast of Saol, the changeling is able to achieve similar healing feats as one might expect from other healing magics such as druidism. They can even go as far as to smear their blood over other people's wounds to heal them.
