<Bridging spring to summer + documentation of a few of Velho's personal projects.>
For Velho, the previous spring was a strange season– in large part due to his vassal, Æhti. Æhti's continued kinship with Cælum the dragon led to a precarious encounter with a Grovebane, and though that was a substantial risk, it did, indeed, bear fruit. Further, a Rakshasa they'd had previous dealings with resurfaced and took the boy on a safari of sorts– something the young Galsterei claimed to have learned a lot from.
And then there was the matter of another stranger's meddling into his life. Vivian's arrival at Själasalr almost a month back had been an event most unexpected. This was both because no local Fælnir would ever possess the audacity to break into the home of an Æld'Norai– especially one bearing the name Seiðr– but also because Velho had decided to keep the strange mutt of a boy around in lieu of slaying him for such a transgression. It wasn't long before Vivian had been properly integrated into the staff of the funeral home, and though many rumors continue to circulate regarding exactly what role he may truly play, the only answer Velho's ever granted was that he's nought any different from any other sveinn he keeps under his employ.
Blessed be, then, that the season actually ended quietly.
As summer rolled in, Velho had kept himself busy. He'd been slowly working to expand the enclosure he'd created alongside Cælum for his beloved felinog, Cloud, and these modifications were finally complete. Working with Æhti to weave together both his Draoidh and the boy's Galdr, they shifted the enclosure into more of an icy cavern as opposed to an outdoor enclosure. Felinogs, see, were not built for the humid climes of Hespæria. The end result was that Æhti had constructed a sturdy myrksteinn cavern around the little island, one enmeshed with the original ætumetal wall, as well as a tunnel that led back up to the main island upon which sat Själasalr. Afterwards, the young Terrari slowly sank the entire thing down into the water– it would be easier to maintain cooler temperatures within it that way.
Within the enclosure, a small chunk of hardlight from Cælum kept the plants alive. Using this and Æhti's ability to modulate the temperature within, Velho took special care to make sure the cættlewreath in particular thrived. The small bulb was covered at night like the actual sun; a sveinn made their way down there twice each day– once at sunrise and once at sunset to cover and uncover it. Over time, the 500 sq. ft. cavern had become quite the little habitat; it was evident to some that Velho had put more effort into making sure it suited the felinog's needs than he cared for most of his sveinn, or any of his mortal prisoners, for that matter.
Another project he began working on was erecting a proper gaol for his personal use. Previously, he'd stored temporary prisoners in the top floor of his manor, but with Vivian present, he decided he didn't quite like keeping his prisoners so close to where the boy could potentially interact with them without his knowledge. Further, he desired enclosures for mortals that were more…permanent, in particular after the capture of the Inari he'd used for Cælum's surgery. He found that she was useful and that he'd no desire to be rid of her.
Keeping small specimens was one thing, but housing people, even if cruelly, required far more space, space he'd have to construct. And so he did just that– a modest gaol, about 1,250 sq. ft., was constructed into the island upon which his business was built. Rather, he'd had Æhti and an Æld'Norai architect assist him in crafting another cavern into the lake, effectively expanding the island once more in a fashion not dissimilar to the felinog's enclosure. It was connected to Själasalr through a downward sloping tunnel, the door of which opened up into the morgue on the first floor. To most, he simply claimed that the door led to a newly installed storage cellar.
For the moment, this new gaol was as secure as one could make it through mundane means. Æhti's myrksteinn walls were exceptionally sturdy, preventing both intrusion and collapse from the water pressure of the surrounding lake. That water, too, served as a measure of security, because in order to get in, one would have to swim down and drillthrough the thick stone. The only other option would be breaking Själasalr and picking a series of complex locks– this was arguably more difficult, given that his place of business was warded with all kinds of Ensorcelled security measures. His next goal was to inlay these same charms into the cavern walls, though he needed some time to both gather the required alkahest and inlay them himself.
As for the rooms that were previously reserved for cells, Velho decided to overhaul them into chambers suitable for smaller specimens. They now house a variety of exotic, well taken care of animals– with space left over for him to collect ever more.
