Summer 1, 125 [Evening]
Ever since the tail end of Spring, Hana had been directed to hunt for Angira. With more resources dedicated towards finding this threatening lich that had managed to attack Kage’s grove, it had been possible to find miasmata threads that led towards the border. Hana had travelled at a breakneck pace, following one such tether, ultimately coming upon a cave. Neither she or Fenrir thought that this search would lead to Angira. They assumed that this would take them to a death knight at best, but the goal was to follow its tether to see if they could use that info to help find Angira.
Unfortunately, even as Hana silently crept into the cave in the dead of night, it appeared that this had been a trap from the get go. A large rock was moved to block the small cave’s entrance soon after she stepped inside. After that it had been a simple matter to kill the small fox as it desperately tried to escape. Having no close quarters skills, it was damn near impossible to dodge the traps that had sprung or the death knight that rushed forwards with a sword.
Had Fenrir not spent so many reserves raising verdant skeletons early in the day, perhaps Hana could have survived. After all, this was just supposed to be a reconnaissance mission with no combat. On top of that, Hana was uniquely equipped for the job because if she died then there was hardly any consequence. And yet… things had gone horribly wrong.
Even as Hana passed away and began to soul march, she found that it was impossible to actually move. It was like she was pinned in place by some kind of athame.
The sound of Angira’s voice cackled as her athame held the familiar in place. Within moments Hana found her spiritual form trapped in a jar.
“You fell right for my little trap. I was hoping that Fenrir would be the one to investigate, but I will happily take his familiar as a prize.”
Hana mentally communicated with Fenrir, “she’s captured me in some kind of container!”
“How?”
“It’s a trap. She’s here. She’s here.”
“Shit.”
“Well, don’t leave me hanging,” Angira said with glee. “What’s he saying? Oh, wait I forgot… you can’t really talk in that form now can you? Well, I suppose there’s only one thing for him to do. I’m going to take you far away with me. And when she finally severs his connection with you, he will know exactly how I felt when she killed my family.”
She let out an evil laugh as Hana relayed what she was hearing. Hana was extremely distressed as she knew what Fenrir knew, the connection had to be severed. If there was some way that information could be extorted out of her in this state… then things would be very bad.
“And after you’re dead for good, I’ll set the next phase of my plan into motion. I have an eternity to torment you!” she cackled again.
“This doesn’t look good,” Fenrir told Hana.
“Will you… will you come for me?” Hana asked.
“I think we both know the answer to that. My treants are not strong enough for a confrontation like this. Damnit I should have sent treants to come with you.”
“No, that wouldn’t have helped. You would have just scared them off.”
“Well, I guess this is it,” Fenrir thought. She never would have thought the familiar she only created a season ago would meet its end like this, but it was better a familiar than herself.
“Goodbye.” And with that, Hana was no more.
