September 2nd 124

Night had not yet turned into dawn when Engill arrived at Abraia's home; the sky was still a little dark but it had a pink hue. The portal behind her had blurred for a moment and then vanished with a sound more like a sigh and Engill was left to face the cold morning air. She had walked for some time to get to the home. The notion of running an errand for Kage, a person she was a fan of had given her a rush. This was her chance to make a contribution for the great person, to be useful for someone significant.

Abraia lived in a house in Græntún. Engill stretched her hand out, rapped the door once, her fingers just touching the door and then she closed her fist and knocked. It sounded in the stillness of the morning, much louder than she expected it to be. She looked around anxiously as if expecting someone to come out of the other houses.

What would happen if Abraia was not home? Engill bit her lip and looked at the floor then at the door again, maybe she should break in if nobody came. It was not a friendly call, as it were. Kage had sent her on this mission and it was not a mission that she could afford to lose or fail. She was to claim ownership of this great crafter.

Abraia heard the knock. She got up wearing nothing but her night dress. She grabbed a knife then went to her door. She peeked out but it was dark. Who could it be? She opened the door, not knowing what to expect.

She saw Engill standing there. She didn't think she had ever seen this elf before. Ever since the other elf had come she had gotten elves coming at odd hours to take her anathema. It was what she had feared for a long time.

The elves had noticed her talent. She felt like a slave to their whims. She missed being attached to Cae.

"What can I do for you" She asked Engill.

"If you are here for anathemite, I have little left."

Engill stood tall and looked at Abraia without a hint of nervousness. "I have no interest in anathemite," she replied. "But you will be coming with me. There is someone who wants to meet you. Oh, and I will be your owner from now on."

Without another word, Engill turned on her heel and began to walk away. She was fully expecting Abraia to follow because the implication was that she would be forced to follow otherwise. Engill glanced back to see whether Abraia was following. If she wasn't, she would extend a thin yet sturdy aetumetal branch to wrap around the woman. That was the unfavorable option.

If she did follow, then Engill would give her a satisfied smirk. "Good to see that you're obedient," she would say. She had made her intentions clear. Now, the only thing left was to deliver the faelnir to Kage. The silver haired elf would go to the nearest exodii and have them direct her to a location near Kage's home.

Abraia took a minute to take in the words. Someone wanted to meet her. Who the hell did they think they were? Waking her up like this. Even that elf who had been associated with Velho had come at a decent hour.

She thought of whether she could talk her way out of this. Nothing came to mind. At least Engill had the decency to knock instead of barging in.

Abraia did not put up a fight. She had known this day would come eventually. That, or death. Maybe her death was coming within the hour. She doubted it if the elf that didn't have the decency to introduce herself said that she owned her.

She was not a talkative kind which unnerved Abraia. She did not want to talk but being given no details was annoying. She would have also liked to be able to change. Her clothes were not the kind to be worn in public.

She followed all the way to the portal and then all the way to Kage's house. When they got there Abraia could not hold her tongue any longer. She braced herself for punishment but spoke anyway.

"Is this my new home? I do not know why I am here. I am a crafter. I am no use without my tools. If you want to use me for my magic I fear you will be disappointed."

She knew better than to prompt an elf for answers but she found that she did not care so much. She was tired, bitchy, annoyed. She knew that elves were active at night but there were many more polite ways of moving her to a location.

She wondered if this was the home of the someone who wanted to meet her. That would fit. She hardly knew the names of any elves unless they were taught to her in school. She thought the chances of meeting someone important was going to be low.

Engill hardly looked at Abraia again as they travelled to Kage's house. There was tension in the air but she did not let that bother her. She had come to do what she had to do and it was not her business to answer questions or give reasons.

When Abraia finally spoke, she sounded frustrated, and Engill stopped for a moment. Without even bothering to look at her, she answered in a cool and emotionless manner. "Your questions are not my concern. You were summoned and called, and now you are present. I can tell you this, this is not MY home and I have no intention of keeping you in my home. I will allow you to live in your house unless someone convinces me otherwise."

The matter, as far as Engill was concerned, was over. If Abraia had questions, she was to find out that Kage was the one who had answers.
