Leviathan / Jǫrmungandr
Challenge Rating 6
Created by: Makt

Description:
Known to be one of the largest creatures in the world, Leviathans are masters of sea and skies. They are serpentine in shape, with heads that resemble dragons. They lack the intelligent of dragons, though they are similar in overall size. Their scales range from blue to white, depending on whether they've spent more time recently in the sea or in the air. They have fins along their body that help with maneuvering in both environments.

Cultural Significance:
Few creatures of the sea can rival its infamy. Anyone living in or around the ocean knows of the existence of the Leviathan and worship them like deities. Those that manage to make a familiar bond with one are treated in equally high respects, as though they've been chosen by the godheads.

Those living inland might question their existence as they are incredibly rare and, from a distance, look similar to long-shaped dragons.

Habitat:
They are one of the most apex creatures of the oceans and spend most of their time in the water as it's the easiest place to find food. They have no biological need to be in the water and do, at times, exit the water to hunt the skies. They can fly perpetually with an ability similar to a Dragon's Natare and can even sleep while doing so, as if they are swimming through the air itself.

Size:
20' tall and up to 1000' long

Biome Role:
Leviathans fight against things it determines to be threats to the sea. If trading routes are causing major disruptions to sea life, it is not unheard of for a leviathan to wrap its body around a ship and destroy it. It fights against other large creatures that prey on areas that have suffering fish populations. It also can adapt its diet to eating outside of the water if necessary.

Life Cycle:
Leviathans lay eggs throughout the year and they are fertilized often. Dozens can be laid at a time but the vast majority of leviathans don't live to reach adolescence (50). They eat each other when they're young and also have to contend with other predators. They reach adulthood at 100 and can live to be 300.

Resources:
Their scales are 2x as hard as steel, and have teeth that are good at fighting against those as tough as they are.

Their blood can be fashioned into potions that may grant the ability to breath underwater and survive the pressures of the deep oceans.

Omnidirectional through the water as if it were air
- Clarify their Slipstream is what allows them to do this.

Their eyes can be resized and implanted – they grant toggleable telescopic vision that can also see through water and thin (less than 1") materials.
- If you want this to see through materials, add it to the beast magic. Telescopic vision is a mundane perk otherwise. Peeping tom bastard.

Beast Magic

Hunger:
- I won't hand out the main functionality of a Poetics Arcana without actually obtaining that Poetics Arcana. Maybe when the Jormungandr swallows things, it may consume its Imber, and this can lead to fostering Syphon.

Verita
- Truth and lies are subjective things and this ability would lead to arguments. Reconfigure this to involve something physical if you're borrowing from Crest Enactment.

Waterport
- No, this encompasses the main reason behind using Exodus. If you want something like this, why not let the Jormungandr dissipate into the darkest depths of one ocean before coalescing into another?

Regal
- No, this is Animism but without a limit. Maybe you could turn this into an active ability that calls sea life within a mile around it to swarm with aggression.

Slipstream:
- Add a duration.

added that slipstream also has pockets of air for riders to breathe
clarified omnidirectional movement is granted by slipstream

edited eyes as requested - added to beast magic

Hunger - changed entirely

Verital - changed entirely

Waterport - changed entirely

Regal - changed entirely

Slipstream - added duration

>Suffocate
- Are you saying this is delivered through a bite, or the blood? This would make more sense as a passive if it's through exposure to the Leviathan's blood.
- Resistance is gradual per tier. Master Resistance would still be at least half as effective against Ascended-level toxins.

> Thrusight - Allows the user to see through obstacles as well as gain the telescopic vision of an implanted eye.
- Explain how this ability functions with Imber.
- Limit the penetration to 5ft at ascended, 1ft at master if this is a passive. An active use could do 25ft at ascended.
- Remove references to implants. If someone wanted to make one, they could by being creative.

>Slipstream
For the buff, start with a minute at Novice and work towards a whole day at ascended in the skill tiers.

> Whirlpool
- Remove skill checks for this. These aren't usually necessary outside of passive resistances to mental or chemical phenomena.
- Describe how the water or air is inhaled. Does it pass through gills?

Personally I don't really like the idea of unflavored truesight at all on anything; any other Arcana's similar sensory ability is more niche than this and also, distinctly, not a passive. The only passive magic sight buffs on the site belong to the Æld'Norai & Cor'Norai as racials, are much more niche, and even then, the only way to otherwise access them would be through Seeming, which, distinctly, also costs Spell Reserves.

This is just significantly stronger without having to expend Spell Reserves for...no reason, regardless of the depth limits.

Alrighty *phew* I think I sorted everything out.

The suffocate ability works when making contact with the bloodstream. It's basically a poison delivered by bite (if you're the leviathan)

Whirlpool only lists a cone range now. The ability specifies that the water/air is sucked to a point and then passes by the user's body.

Thrusight has been entirely replaced by telescopic vision which mirrors how much binoculars can zoom in. It can no longer be implanted. I noted how it interacts with imber.

Slipstream has varying durations now.
