Whispering Yew
Habitat:
This tree thrives in the most dangerous and secluded parts of large forests. They tend to be located near other dangerous, magical plants so even if its location is known, it can be difficult to get to. Its fruit attracts dangerous wildlife as well, making the skies around it just as perilous as approaching on the ground.
Size:
This tree can grow to be 150 feet tall and 12 feet in diameter. It has branches that spread out wide which allows it to create a large, dense canopy..
Biome Role:
It acts as a lightning rod of sorts, protecting other parts of the forest during storms.
Life Cycle:
The whispering yew has a very long life span – it can live thousands of years. Its seeds can only sprout in magically rich environments.
Cultural Significance:
These trees are revered in forest-dwelling societies. Druids often make treks to the tree as part of coming of age ceremonies while collecting various flora to add to their repertoire along the way. Binding to the tree is seen as a way of proving one's mastery as a druid. Items crafted by this tree are commonly referred to as 'whisper' bows, swords, etc.
Description:
Grand and imposing in size, this tree gives off a subtle glow. It isn't bioluminescent, as some assume when seeing it for the first time. It crackles with electricity, the source of its light. These crackles can sound like whispers when it's windy which is how the tree got its name. Its leaves are iridescent green and the entire tree gives off a blue-white light during storms, which tend to be more frequent around it.
Harvesting:
It is incredibly dangerous to even be near this tree. Grandmaster carpentry would be required to properly cut it down or make use of its materials.
Notable Features:
- Its wood is incredibly hard, x2 that of steel
- Bows crafted from this tree are especially powerful – they shoot 2x faster than other bows with similar draw strengths.
- Bows require incredible strength with a draw weight of 500 lbs. Master fitness or floramancy must be used to fire a whisper bow.
- Firing the bow produces a sound reminiscent of a crack of thunder

Abilities
50/250 XP Minor – Lightning Infusion: One can channel electrical energy within themselves and discharge it in a strike, whether through a punch or through a melee weapon. This can be upcast to cause more damage.
100/100 XP Moderate – Lightning Bolt: One can now hurl bolts of electricity (one at a time with an expert cast, or two at a time with a master cast). These bolts travel at the speed of a thrown spear. However, if the user is using a whisper bow, they can fire lightning bolts from it that travel as fast as arrows.
250/250 XP Major – Thunder Beam: One can now emit a large beam of lightning from their hands that travels as fast as lightning itself. It is followed by the sound of thunder.
