DETAILS

When lacking any Arcane augmentations, Hektor is on the short side for a man, though his features are striking. The man is beautiful, with features impish yet elegant and sometimes described as ælven despite his rounded ears, his visage framed by long, golden hair. He appears young, though any guesses after his age are all likely to be incorrect; but who's to say? He doesn't even know the number himself. And while his eyes are often half-lidded and dreamlike, his ice-blue gaze is piercing as any predator's. A quirk of note is what appears to be a pearl embedded like a third eye into the dermis of his forehead, though it is anyone's guess whether this is an odd cosmetic implant or functional in some form or fashion.

Hektor tends to dress darkly, mostly in blacks and grays. He does have a fondness for golds and reds and a softness for white and pearlescent colors, which he'll sometimes wear as accents. He prefers to dress in a way other Haemora would consider incredibly modest, though most would just refer to it such a style as 'appropriate' or perhaps 'professional', yet accessorized with an eclectic flair afforded by the nature of his tastes.

PERSONALITY

Likes: Violence, Blood, Biology, Arcana, Botany

Dislikes: Cowardice, Intense Heat, Socializing, Bureaucracy

Merits: Curious, Passionate, Creative, Versatile

Flaws: Quick Tempered, Sadistic, Impatient, Impulsive

Hektor is an odd bird.

On one hand, he's a curious, versatile entity with a passion for science. He finds life fascinating, from flesh to flora, and desires to explore these interests of his as much as he can (irrespective of the suffering such pursuits may cause). On these subjects, he can be surprisingly logical and pragmatic, pontificating as a proper scholar might. In these contexts, people often perceive him as beautiful, soft spoken, intelligent and articulate.

On the other, he is a bloodhound; a malevolent malignancy with an insatiable lust for violence stemming from the toxic corruption of the Absentia-cross-Malachor that roils through every mote of his soul. When he drops his thin façade of 'normalcy', he cannot be reasoned with, losing himself and becoming a predator powered by primal instinct and the thrill of the hunt alone. Or, maybe, he's not lost himself at all; perhaps the monster is what he really is.

Really, the truth of Hektor lies likely somewhere between those two poles. Young as he is in this state, he is still adapting to a world anew. Exhilarating as that might be, eager as he is to learn, that does not change one simple fact: narrow is the scope of one incubated in the Void; he is still quite naïve to the multi-Planar reality he now inhabits.

HISTORY

When Nihilos' children, the Blighted beneath banners Alítheian, came together to nurture the gestation of a Nihilisk within Caligony, their success resulted in the resurrection of a dying Plane and a revitalization of the spirits therein. Perhaps as a gesture of good will or abstract kindness, the newborn Nihilisk puked out several Endless from within Nihilos' shadowy demesne in the aftermath thereof. Once Caligony's conversion to a Tumbledown had taken root, the Haemora gained the ability to convert those dark souls into their own as the first new generation of their kind to be born in millennia.

Hektor awoke as a result of this strange and novel occasion, born blessed with the Pact of his people and Devorare as a parting gift from his beloved Night Father. He remembers markedly little from his time as an Endless, and he remains blissfully unaware of anything that might've come before that. Pondering the past doesn't interest the newborn Haemora, though; once he learned to Apparate, he was given more freedom to roam and explore the smattering of Planes which composed the vast cosmos. His inquisitive nature, voracious appetite and quick study of Arcana have all served to keep him busy now as he explores Antarok in fresh flesh. Perhaps it was this bold, adventurous curiosity that made manifest Antarok's Pact in turn.

Unfortunately, the curious Haemora's ignorance of Antarokian cultures have him walking a dangerous line as he sets out to explore Dullahan. Nevertheless, his impulsive nature and abundant faith in Nihilos propel him forward, confident that there is no circumstance he won't worm his way out of. What could possibly go wrong?

Details

  • Virgil is a large man; he is tall, broad shouldered and naturally strong. His visage evokes an austere sophistication– diamond face, prominent brow line, tired yet striking golden eyes, aquiline nose, and an omnipresent frown. These features framed in mid-length white hair create an elegant balance of beauty and masculinity. He is not very emotive, oftentimes coming across humorless and sometimes dour regardless of how he's actually feeling. These things combined, many find the Alchemist to be intimidating or overly serious at first blush.

In the past, he always dressed sharply, with business casual being considered on the border of disheveled per his tastes. But this has changed– ever since his acquisition of Nymheia, he has engaged far less in self care. He often appears exhausted and barely put together. And though he still dresses well by most standards, it is with simplicity and comfort in mind more so than anything else.

  • Quiet and Introverted, Virgil has a tendency to keep to himself the overwhelming majority of the time. As a result, he spent the majority of his childhood buried in books which instilled into him a lifelong love of learning. Though he often comes across as academic and cold on the surface, this is not the case. Rather, he simply prefers to stifle his emotions and avoid displaying them.

Virgil is also something of a natural caretaker and protector towards that which he holds dear. By most, he is considered an amiable gentle giant. These things woven with a desire to help and heal led him down a path in the fields of chemistry and medicine where he is beloved by his patients for both his skill and temperament.

  • Born in one of outer Dullahan's towns to a working class family, his childhood was relatively quiet. Bright, curious and kind, Virgil's thirst for knowledge began at a rather young age. As a result, he spent most of his youth studying various things that interested him from biology to Alchemistry. This inquisitive drive resulted in a love of experimentation that never waned even after the few incidents during which he injured himself, persisting even at the protest of worried parents.

Rather than seek to destroy, Virgil wished to restore, to heal. He adored the medicinal applications of Alchemy and wound up working his way to becoming a rather prominent doctor in the city during his early adulthood. And while he has always maintained a curiosity towards Malediction, he has been content simply to work alongside colleagues in that field as opposed to pursuing it himself.

People quite liked him for his creative problem solving, diagnostic ability, skills when working under pressure in addition to his kindness and generally soft demeanor. And by his thirties, Virgil was considered one the most eminent practitioners in his field; prodigal, almost. As such, not a single soul predicted his downward spiral.

It all started after a terrible accident. Something went awry and a spark from the fireplace resulted in his sister's home going ablaze in the middle of the night. Living nearby, he awoke to the commotion of the firefighters and quickly stumbled out to help as best he could. He was greeted by his sister, her husband and their child laid out as best the firefighters could while they attempted to control the building inferno.

Virgil's arrival at the scene was met with relief, as no other doctor was yet present on the scene. Attempting to triage them, he knew the situation dire– there were three patients, all loved ones suffering severe burns and smoke inhalation, and only one of him. And yet, miraculously, he managed to save them all. He would go on to downplay their injuries, claiming that Alchemical salves and mundane bandages had done the job, but in reality, he'd manifested Mimira's Pact and burned through Saol to stabilize them. For the moment, everyone believed his story; why wouldn't they? The scene was so chaotic, it wasn't as if anyone else was hovering over him.

It was only in the aftermath thereof that cracks started to show, for Virgil was lauded as a hero and lavished with nothing but praise and affection from kith and kin alike. He was able to rest on laurels for only about a week before the pain of Nymheia's hyper empathy had crept in to a point at which he could no longer ignore it, and so he turned to drink to cope. The amount was fairly normal the first month or so, though those close to him still found it strange given how little he drank prior. But he just kept drinking more and more; he was trapped in the agony of everyone's various ailments all at once and knew no other way to numb it.

After only a few months, Virgil was barely able to work. It made no sense at all! He'd saved the lives of his family and everyone loved him; why wasn't he happy? Those around him began to whisper– had he been cursed? Surely, it had to be magic. Nothing but the evils of the Arcane ought to cause such a noble man to stumble so. And, eventually, these rumors circulated to the wrong pair of ears.
