Khepri
꒷꒦︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶꒦꒷꒦︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶꒦꒷

Indefinitely Old
Male
Rakshasa

Details
Upper-Class
Member of the Qabila, and the Oversight Committee within Bastion Academy.
Fluent in Rakkish, Jinnic, Crudish, and Common

Appearance

"Khepri is a short-furred, midnight-black feline with vibrant, citrine-yellow eyes ringed by gold tattoos. He is 14" or 0.35m at the shoulder in height with tall, tufted ears and a black button nose. His muzzle is full of sharp, smiling white teeth; Khepri is fearsome, indeed! Upon his paws are greyish-black pads, ivory white claws sheathed within them.

Wreathed about Khepri's neck is a spiked, golden collar, while his dexterous long tail is tipped with a talon forged from bronze. He carries himself with a haughty sort of pride, rash and brazen as any conqueror might be."

Personality
"Khepri is Rakshasa. He is every bit as capricious as the rest, oft' sadistic, vile, alien in his ways, yet paradoxically kind, even merciful to those who venerate him. Wont to live in the moment for he is broken and blind to the years, he does not dwell upon anything nor is he reluctant to join paw with the plans of his kin for the fun of it. He is always, always looking for drama, for passion! Games of mirth, of wit, of blood and death, they do not matter. Something new, something with a twist.

Simple, simple. Khepri is regarded by the Qabila as simple and easy to know, to trust that he might act his part. Yet he does love his toys, and this affection might get in the way; they know better than to trifle with his claims.

HISTORY
꒷꒦︶︶︶︶︶꒦꒷︶︶︶︶︶︶︶꒦꒷꒦︶︶︶︶︶︶︶꒷꒦︶︶︶︶︶꒦꒷

The Age of Wood
"Hwæt! Since the Age of Wood, nay before then, before even that Dragon settled and blew his accursed winds, Khepri has lived for his fun. He laughed, and played, and knew every vile little secret these short-lived little lives in his paws could carry. That vile trickster! He possessed the Gnoll, drove them to war with the Orks and the Trow, then married them to one another with no thought for consequence. Paws on a board, Khepri knew true power in those times, though he can only by now recall the highlights. Impressive slaughter, the smell of battle, and pain for when he had been so foolish as to be bitten upon his leg wanting for the luxury of being groomed. They called him the Black Scorpion in those days; he would bite and claw for fun, and his claws were sharper than any arrow shorn from rock."

The Age of Wind
"In that time when the Ælvenkyne flocked to his desmene, Khepri instigated for these early Jin'Norai great hardship, ill with contempt for their dusty facades! How could such soft-skinned filth exist there? By now Khepri was rather old, in a coterie with other Rakshasa who plied their games with him. He possessed Jin'Norai and Vokhai alike, driving them like dolls with false, play-pretend promises that stoked bloodshed until from among the Ælves a small number of mighty Galsterei emerged to battle back his manipulations. One by one, the strings broke, and so the Ælves were spared from the yoke of oppression.

If only for a few centuries. The Rakshasa he knew gathered in kind, and from shadows plied they helped foster Mirage Kingdoms from naught. Khepri's marked affinity for Possession allowed him to steal Galdr for his kin, though when his closest ally ignited and burst by his attempt to share, he grew sour to the idea of being close to another like him ever again. To this day he remembers little Rock Jumper dissolving into the sand, running what remained of another Rakshasa through his paws with morbid curiosity. At the time he had taken for himself the marks of Exodus, but for once that game seemed more dangerous than it was worth to play."

The Age of Water
"The Mirage Kingdoms were stupendous! Worthy of awe! Though Khepri and his cohort did not know to whom or to what extent could be blamed upon his own kind, he did attribute nearly every innovation to his own race, for how could those silly little Ælves think of such things on their own? Their minds were too primitive, not much better than an Ork's in his own thoughts. Now more than ever he thought of himself like a god, showing himself to those in need and toying with the fates of Jin'Norai in generational epics of love, wrath, and betrayal.

Approached by another band of his race, turmoil stirred in the shadows. Jin'Norai planned to turn on their gods! How dare they?

This could not stand."

The Age of Earth
"Khepri puppeted a half-score of Jin'Norai he had fostered over centuries to be frail of mind and weak for their lusts; within them, he wielded their potent power and visited upon their families woe. Upon targets of the grand plan, he made catastrophe upon them—upon the Kings who would dare to turn upon Rakshasa as he! The ease by which the Kingdom spoiled to ruin drove him to laughter for his days!

"O proud ones, you are mortal now. The place of mortals is upon the earth alone."

When Khepri first tasted the words, he gave a little jig from up in the stone columns of an abandoned palace, coiled about the soul of a slumbering boy who thought to take shelter there when chaos burned in the streets. Ælf upon Ælf, such glory! In the night, everything fell to ruin as sand piled in thick. It smothered the Jin'Norai whom sheltered in their homes, and left the rest with nothing but cries for mercy in their hearts.

Khepri left the ruins and fell to the ways of the desert with his cohort like a snickering fraternity. In the deserts they schemed and skirmished with Sheddites, and took of the ones with weak minds puppets to wield and play in the night. When one of their kind were torn apart by the whims of a Zephyr'i, they laughed and bickered in shock at their brother's demise; some chose to wisely find their fun elsewhere. Khepri, though, was overjoyed to fight these small, broken factions in the dunes like dolls.

Gradually the deserts changed, and so did sentiments. The Sheddites lost their zeal, forced to reckon with colorful faces from an evolving world. Khepri, too, looked upon even weaker, muddier races he had never before seen. It was all so amusing, even more so when he laid eyes upon the impressive Galsterei, Theosophia. Though Khepri had summoned many powerful Rakshasa, he could never have claimed to fight her, merely baring witness from a great distance, transfixed with bemusement and in awe such power could be fostered by a being."

The Age of Fire
"At the dawning of the Age of Fire, Khepri agreed to the Accord of Bast. He aided in the founding of the city, of Bastion, conferring expedieint travel in exchange for favors. Though he is a member of the Committee on Oversight within the Academy, he travels between there and his home in Bast, managing a great many interests and hobbies while enjoying a life of luxury and worship. His games may never never ended, but he enjoys the praise now to offer mercy to those who kowtow to his whims.

Enchanted by tales of Paragon, Khepri aids in a secret program to abduct and train young Jin'Norai to one day permanently possess as a font of power. To that end, he has been successful, creating and nurturing a Paragon Candidate, Khafra. What he did not expect was for the boy's mind to grow so resolute as he matured, nor for his power to grow so fast as to eclipse his own. Now he is weary, yet entertained at his experiment gone awry."

  • Nexus
Folded into a pocket of space is Khepri's Nexus, which is about 600sq in size. Tucked into each of the walls are archways--paintings depicting to various locales across Antarok and the Planes. The area is styled after a Hookah Lounge for Rakshasa, with small beds, a Hookah Lamp between them, and a pair of areas for larger beings. Upon the stone pillars here are hieroglyphics in Rakkish speaking to Khepri's doings, much like a journal across millennia which his own kin to read about his long life should he allow them to visit.

Woven between the flagstones is a selection of twice, thrice, and four-Mirrored Conjurations for Master-tier Syphon, powered by Khepri's own Aether.

    1) Bastion Academy - Department of Smoke
    2) Bastion Academy - Department of Sky
    3) Bastion Academy - Department of Fire
    4) Bastion Academy - Department of Natural History
    5) Black Scorpion Warrens
    6) City of Bast - Lower District

  • The Black Scorpion Warrens
Long ago, Khepri met a Rakshasa named Foreman who spent much of his time within the Ur'Duun, trading and selling wonders of the deep. Bartering from the feline tinker a Claim, he paid to have its tunnels sealed. Khepri now aims to one day settle a mine there, though he has not as of yet done much with the territory.

Within the Warrens exists Khepri's private laboratory. There he watches over Jin'Norai adolescents he has come to own, mentoring them, abducting magi and bringing them down there to teach his flock. One day, he hopes, he will have a powerful being to possess. In fact, that had already happened, until the boy, Khafra—now a man—escaped his clutches.

These mages are considered Story NPCs.

    Name
    Khafra

    Details
    Khafra is Khepri's ANPC ( https://www.antarok.net/threads/khafra.352/ )

Khepri obtained Khafra from his parents when he was just a child. Through careful nurturing across five decades of training, he put the Jin'Norai boy through a regimen of training with only a Familiar to keep him comforted. The result? A Paragon Candidate, and a powerful one at that responsible for devising the meteor that fell upon Haitaru, Jian during the 68th of Winter, 125.

Khafra escaped containment before long, and Khepri made no further effort to hold him prisoner. Keeping a watchful eye on Khafra from a distance, Khepri is unsure if he can fully realize his designs upon the young man he has grown into. He intended for this prodigy to suffer a weak, fractured mind from his isolation, but in fact he grew stronger for it.
