────── Kage Fadir ──────

Spring 7-36, 125

Now that Kage had a good number of treants, he put them to work. Or, rather, Hana did. She commanded them to construct more treants. They would respect the boundaries of the property and would spend their time chopping down trees. Not to say that they would only limit themselves to trees on the property, but the goal was to harvest this place first before moving to more remote areas of the forest to cut down trees. Clearing these ten acres was most important because it meant that they could store more treants there and start working on structures in the future.

These treants would be tasked with cutting down trees and to start shaping them into other treants. They were only Journeymen at carpentry, so the detail wouldn’t be the same as Kage’s. This was the easiest way Kage could think of to reduce the absurd saol cost of creating bodies himself.

The treants would get to work to create a variety of treants. Some would be created similar to themselves, while others would be wooden birds and small critters that could be used as fetches. Others worked on laying the groundwork to craft something truly monsterous in size that would probably take them all season to even start to see shaped properly under Hana’s guidance.

“Are we done here?” Hana asked after she mentally set them all to work.

“Almost,” Kage said with a smile. “I want to make one more.”

He started off towards one particular tree that looked to have about the same mass as an adult dragon. He put his hands on it and raised it as a Colossal Treant. It sprang to life, pulling its roots free from the ground so that it could walk.

“Have them shape this into something more usable,” Kage said to Hana as he felt most of his remaining saol seep from his body.

“I got a little more left in me,” he realized so he went to a smaller tree and raised it as an Elysian treant. “Do the same for this one.”

“What do you mean by usable?” Hana asked.

“You know the largest project is going to be used to house Mordva, it should be about the size and shape of an ancient dragon. But this colossal one can be in the shape of a fox. I’m thinking of a nine tailed inari. The Elysian can be… hmm… how about a tiger? I miss Fluffy’s old tiger. I wish I hadn’t gotten rid of it.”

“That’s a lot of work,” Hana said with a sigh, “but it will be done, as you requested.”

“Good. Now, I should go and find some faelnir to sunder.

And so they went their separate ways. Kage spent the rest of his week rounding up faelnir that had heightened levels of saol. He made his way through the faelnir portion of the city near the lake and picked people out and sent them to his new plot of land where they were to wait for him. While he did his selections he also kept an eye out for the most appealing looking falenir. He sent about ten of them over to his home where they would be let in to join the rest of his pets as his servants. Staffing a large mansion was tough work, after all.

Meanwhile, Hana and the treants accomplished a lot. 100 tireless workers could do a lot in the span of a week. They cleared a large section of the 10 acre plot of land and managed to make 900 more treant bodies. They had hollow skulls with spots to fit in a real human skull, so that they could eventually be filled in with eyes, ears, nose, etc. They even created a spot in the throat to put haerpsi in the future. They made these modifications to each other as well.

That begged the question – who was going to be used to fill these empty heads? Kage would have to figure that out at some point, but for now he was content with expanding their numbers. With so many soldiers he felt like it wouldn’t be that cumbersome to throw them at some vokhai and get results. Or he could have everyone go hunting.

The hardest thing for Hana to get used to was size. It wasn’t necessarily being smaller, she was actually as used to being tiny as she was huge. The problem was there had never been any in between. She felt very amorphous ever since being changed, like she had the potential to be either the size of a house or small enough to sit in someone’s hand. She also liked the experience of managing tethers. She felt like she was remotely controlling one or hundreds of mechanical spiders that kept the plot of land in tip top shape. She never had any need for an in between before. If she needed to go somewhere she couldn’t go as a master of the undead, a treant could very easily be sent along.

There were some things she couldn’t do herself, but a quick question to Kage usually resolved her concerns. Keeping everything truly important to the two of them in their minds where they could pull it out with a thought and a tug. She didn’t even need a real form to stay with him. They were connected constantly by their tether that was neigh unbreakable without a mystic’s touch. She didn’t need a humanoid form. What was the point?

She didn’t even need this face, not before, but now things were quite different. Kage was almost always gone to do his job. She often felt like he had abandoned her. He decided to work more closely with his coworkers after spending so much time goofing off in Jian. He hadn’t even spoken to her in person in quite some time.

That was the second hardest thing to get used to. She felt connected to him, because she was. Spending so much time apart was rough on her. She adapted though and was soon able to run at her full capacity alone. Her treants required less and less thought to remote control as she got used to the experience, keeping them synced to the master schedule. To run this operation however still took a lot more mental energy because there were just sooo many treants in play. And if she tried to give too many commands or split up the work too much she felt overwhelmed. She technically could do these things, but it would take time to get beter. She had to pick and choose what they did and what to ignore. Workarounds were possible, but required time and effort that she was not used to making.

Kage stopped by on the 8th to raise 250 of the treants, which was about all he could do on his current reserves while keeping some emergency saol on hand. It was clear that his construction force was much more efficient than he was able to keep up with. That was a good thing. He imagined that he would feel drained most of the time until he finally made his trip to aelphyne.

From the 8th to the 15th, the treants split their efforts so that some could start making housing. These were similar to barracks to shelter the treants that weren’t risen yet from the weather. With 350 working treants, production went by very quickly. They were able to construct 5 basic warehouses and 1000 wooden birds that were stored in a neat formation in one of the buildings alongside the unrisen humanoids. Kage made his way around and raised 250 more of the humanoid treants, bringing his workforce to 600 treants.

From the 15th to the 22nd, the treants stopped working on structures and instead started working mostly on creating an elysian treant. It was quite large and was quadrupedal. It had a tail and spikes that ran all along its back. Its purpose was meant to be a large imposing force that could barrel through obstacles and act as good cover. Its underbelly had a depression in it where someone could slip into and hide if need be. Its spikey back could also open up to be used as a storage space, large enough to fit 10 human bodies.

When Hana wasn’t busy directing work on the Elysian, nicknamed Tank, she directed the treants to make ten bows and two hundred arrows. She also started laying the groundwork for what would eventually be the ancient dragon sized structure that would house Mordva. This was an extremely long task but it was good to get it started.

During this time, Kage requisitioned a black wooden rifle to be made for himself and he purchased 150 bullets. He raised 250 more of the humanoid treants (total 850 now) as the Elysian was still being constructed and wasn’t ready to be risen yet.

From the 22nd to the 29th, Kage went hunting and killed a large anima’s head. He put this into Tank’s head and threaded plant matter into it after putting it into Tank’s body. Now that Tank was completed Kage raised it along with 100 of the bird fetches and the remainder of the humanoids that hadn’t been risen yet (150). He only raised the fetches after placing the heads of real birds into the fetch skulls, granting them eyesight, hearing, etc. He also busied himself with a bit of ensorcelling work. He meticulously wrote spells along the body of the gun so that it would be able to effectively shoot spells. Bullets were good, yes, but he had a good feeling that mundane means of causing damage weren’t going to be enough. He liked to be over prepared when going to a different plane. Worst case he could be stranded there for a long while and he needed to be able to defend himself against those asshole Sidhe.

Kage thought for a long while but he couldn’t think of much else besides putting a couple zephyr spells onto his gun so he bought some aerisite and got to work:

The gun points at a target. Once the spell is activated, wind is conjured on the target’s position. The wind moves directly downwards and is strong enough to propel 1.3 times Kage’s own body weight (glyphics used for the 30% bonus). The purpose of this spell was to help ground any pesky Sidhe that thought they could fly away. Kage created two of these spells.

He ensorcelled a variety of symbols onto his hand that contained a spell that would mute all sound around Kage when activated by thought. There were five of these on his hand.

From the 29th to the 36th, Kage put Mordva into Tank’s body. Mordva did good work by helping pull heavier trees and lift large parts for the construction of Mordva’s future body. The 1000 workers split their efforts between that project and constructing Green Wardens. These were humanoid, shaped much like the smaller workers except their aesthetic was very knight-like. They had thick wooden armor, though it was made out of regular mundane wood just like all the other creations. 25 Green Wardens were created during this time and Kage raised all of them.

Kage spent a good amount of his free time creating Talismans. He made three of them that were little more than wooden pieces of jewelry that he wore as rings. They were journeyman in potency and existed purely to Quash aether that attempted to control his body, whether through exodus or aqua. It would not affect other spells.

Kage decided to take a break raising treants, but he did commission a visor to be made for him. A red see through lens that is sandwiched between two non-magical lenses. All lenses are constructed by a Grandmaster glassworker with strength that one might expect from such craftsmanship. That being said, they lack any cantrips that grant supernatural durability. The lenses are separated from each other with a physical spacer around the edges to maintain a controlled gap to help isolate the Ehtrim lens from stress, damage, and fracture. The lenses are shaped like a visor that goes over the eyes. They are currently fixed to a secure strap so that it may be worn like a pair of goggles. The glass of the visor is made such that it could be integrated into a helmet. Looking through this lens dispels Ascended tier illusions of any kind.

The 1000 treant workers and Hana continued working on Mordva’s future ancient dragon sized body and building various structures around the ten acre plot of land. This would continue on through the rest of the season before being completed.
