Memory Checkup

Sjal was sweating profusely by the time Abraia showed up. "Okay, water," she said between heavy breaths. She sheathed her sword and ran over to the well. Minutes later she was back with two buckets of water. She dumped them in, one after another, effectively flooding the hole with a lot of water at once.

It worked.

The rabbit leapt out from the hole, jumping higher than Sjal stood as it tried to bounce away. Sjal was ready though. She drew her sword and slashed at it in midair. She rolled in the direction the rabbit's momentum carried it, stabbing it as soon as it hit the ground.

Her movements were perfectly executed even though she'd never done this exact series of slashes and stabs before. Her inaccuracy with her sword would be evident by the quality of the cuts. She still hadn't killed the rabbit even though that had been her intention. She felt the urge to drive her sword one more time into it, this time in its head, but she figured it was probably fortunate for the rabbit to not be dead – yet.

"Should I end it? I think you said you needed it alive… I don't know exactly how father's magic works but… I think it would be usable in this state? If not then he could just heal it."

Abraia wanted to handle things a little differently. Let the rabbit escape and follow it. Tire it out, then capture it. She was not used to working with an energetic youth. The child was too quick to start letting her blade fly.

"Don't kill it!!! Go fetch your father. I will look after it in the mean time. To think that you almost killed it."

Abraia did not like how damaged it was. She hated that Cae wasn't here. Then he could inherit the body of the rabbit. If he took the body now then he would get an injured version. He would have to heal it. Then they could begin their testing of it.

"I ought to smack you for acting so rashly. That kind of thing will get you killed one day. If you do not like your father then try not to be like him so much."

"Sorry," Sjal said sheepishly as she prodded the aelbunum with her foot. She hadn't meant to upset her mother but she had a way of getting too into things. The rush of adrenaline from combat was addictive to say the least.

"I'll go fetch him then," she said as she inclined her head. She took off at a jog, passing by dozens of women who were on their way to who knew where. She made it to the big sequoia at the middle of town and asked for someone to deliver an urgent message to her father. She was not in the mood to climb up all the steps today.

Caelum appeared behind Sjal not too long later, looking slightly annoyed. "I was in the middle of something. What is it?"

"Mother asked me to fetch you. If you'd stayed for just a few more minutes I wouldn't have had to get you." Sjal pointed at him and jammed her index finger into his chest.

"Hmph, alright, let's get going. You find that rabbit then, I take it?"

"Yep! I nearly killed it so you'll probably have to heal it."

Caelum would fly the both of them back to the rabbit where he'd wave apologetically at his partner. "Sorry, so what is it you want me to do again? Take the form of this rabbit? Sjal, cut off its foot after I heal it." He touched it with a hand and stopped it from bleeding, though it was still in pretty bad shape.

His daughter listened, lopping the foot off without any fanfare and handing it to him. Caelum gulped it down and focused, ultimately gaining the imprint.

Abraia had dozed off. She sat down at the base of the tree and had her head leaning against it. She woke up when she heard Cae's voice.

"Dragon, you should not have left. I will punish you for that. Let me think, your punishment will be testing out this rabbit's abilities for the rest of the day."

"Yes, take the form. You should not turn into the rabbit but I have two ideas. One, try to inherit its mating abilities. And two, we will try to see what happens if you pass similar abilities to a woman. I have a feeling that women would be able to have many babies or have them more quickly. It will take time to see the results but we must do this. If it works then we have a major discovery on our hands. It could increase production of children immensely!"

After saying all that she felt winded. "Now Sjal help me back to the workshop. I wish to rest. I've had enough excitement for today"

"Sorry, sorry. I guess I was in a bad mood. You know I don't like to do these sorts of things, especially for something as silly as a rabbit. I'm used to hunting much… bigger threats. Anyways, I will get to doing the experiments, then. It will take me some time in the rabbit's form to learn how its body works but… I should be able to yield some results soon enough."

He did not exactly feel safe transforming here in front of Sjal, not with how quick she could work that sword. He would levitate back into the air and go someplace safe before experimenting. He could see where Abraia was coming from. She had gotten really into the whole baby production plan, though personally he'd stopped caring about the number of children he produced. He was content just being surrounded by fertile attractive women. The actual production of children was more of a thing to make the aelves happy at this point.

Sjal would shake her head, "alright, let's get you some rest then. Sorry about today…" She'd accompany her mother back to her house

Miles away, in the comfort of his own private room, Caelum had locked the door. He focused with a grim look on his face. Seeming was a fucking rough magic. Sensitivity was the real killer, but he would suffer for the sake of this 'science' Abraia spoke of.

Then, in an instant, he was a big ol' rabbit. Everything hurt but he channeled saol into the form to fix some of the internal injuries. He wouldn't die, but he wasn't exactly in tip top shape either. He tried walking around a little and tried to get a feel for how all his 'parts' worked. This was going to be a looong process.
